There are 3 soccer programs available in Corkery: Micro, House League and Competitive
Micro Soccer
Micro soccer is run by the Corkery Community Association. It is held once per week on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7pm from mid May to the end of July / beginning of August.
The purpose of the program is to introduce soccer to 4 and 5 year olds in a fun environment. The children are divided up into small teams. Parent volunteers run the practices with a fun game at the end of the practices.
The 2010 season will accept children born in 2005 and 2006. On-line registration is now open. Follow this link to the registration page on the West Carleton Soccer Club website.
If you have any questions about micro soccer, please contact our Micro Soccer Coordinator Joanne Daykin at jdaykin@innovationpartners.com
House League and Competitive Soccer
House League and Competitive Soccer are run by the West Carleton Soccer Club (WCSC).
House League
House League soccer teams are formed within the 6 communities of West Carleton: Corkery, Carp, Kinburn, Dunrobin, Constance Bay and Fitzroy Harbour . The teams are set by birth year and divided into 2 year groupings. For example U9 teams are formed of children who turned 8 or turned 9 during the year; U11 teams are formed of children who turned 10 or 11 during the year. If there are enough players and enough interest there may also be girls-only teams in the same age category.
Each House League team has a practice once per week and a game once per week. The game locations alternate between our home field (at the Carrol Homestead Park on Old Almonte Rd.) and an away field. For example, your child may play against a Carp team in Carp one week, then against a Dunrobin team in Corkery another week.
Each community runs leveling exercises at the beginning of the season to try to ensure that on one team in a community is stronger than the others. Fair play rules apply so every child get equal playing time on the field.
Teams are coached by parent and/or youth volunteers. Games are refereed by referees trained for the level of play.
The season is from mid May to mid August. Games in the first half of the season are played on Saturdays starting May 29th. At the end of June the games are played on week-day evenings. Game nights for July and August are as follows:
U7 - Thursdays
U9 - Mondays
U11 - Tuesdays
U13 - Wednesdays
U15 - Fridays
U18 - Sundays
There is a club-wide tournament at the end of the season August 20th to August 22nd.
On-line registration is now open. Follow this link to the registration on the West Carleton Soccer Club website. Registration ends April 30, 2010.
Talons Competitive Soccer
The WCSC fields many competitive teams in the Eastern Ontario District Soccer Association (EODSA) region. Try-outs for these teams are held in March or April. Teams usually start practicing indoors at the beginning of April and move outdoors at the beginning of May. There are usually 2 practices and 1 game per week. Games are played against competitive teams from other clubs in the Ottawa region.
Registration for Talons is now closed for the 2010 season.
Coaching and Volunteers
All of the soccer programs run with volunteers. The WCSC runs coaching clinics and coaches and sponsors volunteers who take clinics and or coaches through other clubs. More information about these clinics can be found on the WCSC website.
If you are interested in coaching your child’s team or have a teen who would like to help coach for volunteer hours, please contact the Corkery Soccer Coordinator, Alyson MacPherson at alyson11@sympatico.ca.
