The City of Ottawa began its annual Spring Cleaning the Capital in 1994 and is the biggest litter pickup campaign in Canada. Corkery has been involved in this program since inception and it is an exciting way for residents to come together as a community by cleaning up our park and surrounding area, while enjoying the outdoors and ensuring that Ottawa stays clean, green and litter-free.
Spring Cleanup 2009
Saturday
April 18th will be the 15th anniversary of the Corkery Community Annual Spring
Clean Up Day. Actively celebrate Earth Week by participating with
your neighbours, friends and family. Many a "nasty" has been
hidden by the winter's snow and ice. As spring greens up our roadsides
and fields, please take some time to help tidy up so that we can take
pride in a clean, healthy local environment. Start time, with
recording of desired route assignments, is 8:30AM at the CarrollHomesteadPark building. Garbage bags,
gloves, noon pizza/hot dog lunch provided. Student community
hours can be obtained by volunteering with a task at the park or on any road
side you choose. Contact Sue Cannon 256-5148 for further
information. In case of TORRENTIAL rain only, Clean Up will be
postponed until Saturday April 25th same time, same place.
Plan to join us for FUN, FELLOWSHIP & FOOD. Small jobs, larger jobs, there is a task for everyone. So lend a hand and you too can have the satisfaction of a litter-free community.
Many thanks to Sue Cannon and Sheila May for organising this event.

Spring Cleanup 2008
A hearty THANK YOU goes out to all the volunteers who participated in the April 19th CCA's Annual Spring Clean Up day. Spending the day out of doors with our neighbours doing something active and worthwhile was an excellent use of this recent Saturday morning. 45 people worked to collect 30 bags of garbage, 10 full boxes of recycles and one large box of alcohol/beer bottles plus odds and ends. The flooring inside the Park building was thoroughly cleaned. The drive around the rink and all grounds, sports fields and gardens were de-littered as well. The area surrounding the volunteer fire hall next door was picked up as were the roadsides immediately adjacent to the park. Some volunteers signed up to do specific roadway sections.
After a hard morning's labour, volunteers returned to the Carroll Homestead Park building to enjoy fellowship, hot dogs, pizza, drinks and ice cream cones. Let's hope that next year we have a repeat of the same perfect spring eather and an even larger turn out of community minded volunteers to start our summer season off clean and green.
