ICE RINK
Our ice rink season is around the corner and as always, we need volunteers to help clean the ice. This not-so-glamorous but much appreciated job is crucial in maintaining a great ice rink. If you can help once in a while or on a regular basis, please contact Pat Cavanaugh at 613-256-7595 or patrick.cavanaugh@genband.com. Thank you in advance to the volunteers of this upcoming winter!
More information on men and women’s hockey leagues will be posted on our website soon!
HOCKEY
The Corkery outdoor hockey rink is OPEN for the season.
Please note that there is no organized hockey for youth or children this year at the Corkery Community Centre. There were not enough children interested in run a league. Please contact the Carp Community Centre if your child wishes to play outdoor hockey in winter 2011.
Women’s Hockey
Women's Hockey is held on Fridays 8pm-9pm. We have women of all levels and abilities from beginners to experienced players. The emphasis is on fun and enjoying a great energetic workout on the outdoor rink.
When does it start?
Weather permitting, our first session will be on Friday January 21st. In order to start promptly at 7pm you should plan to arrive at the Corkery Community Association no later than 6:55pm to put on your skates.
How long does it run?
We will continue to play hockey every Sunday as long as the ice is fit for use, hopefully until early March, weather permitting.
How much does it cost?
Absolutely free.
How do I register?
We will operate on a drop-in basis, so just go ahead and show up. THERE WILL BE A SIGNUP SHEET INSIDE THE BUILDING. PLEASE SIGN IN EACH WEEK SO THAT WE CAN KEEP TRACK OF NUMBERS ATTENDING. If you have friends that are interested, please invite them. I will notify everyone by email if hockey is cancelled due to poor weather.
How will we play?
PLEASE try to arrive on time so that we can mix up the teams. Latecomers will need to join the team with the fewest players. We may switch it up halfway through to keep it balanced so that everyone can enjoy their time on the ice. Remember this is FUN!! Whilst some of us play regularly, others are new to the game, so please keep it fun and safe for everyone. No slap shots or raising the puck, please.
What equipment do I need?
Aside from your skates and your stick, you must wear a helmet and you will want to wear gloves, but no other equipment is required. Some ladies wear soccer shin pads under their pants and others suggest roller blade knee & elbow pads. Feel free to wear whatever equipment you like to protect you from falls on the ice. Helmets, of course, are mandatory. It can get pretty cold, but you warm up fast, so you will want to dress warmly in layers that can easily be removed. It's also a good idea to bring along a bottle of water for after.
